G'day and welcome to Perth, Western Australia! Get ready for a fantastic drive that will take us from the heart of the city all the way to the Indian Ocean and historic Fremantle. We'll begin by exploring central Perth, passing some of its most important historic landmarks before reaching the beautiful Swan River waterfront and Elizabeth Quay. From there, we'll climb into spectacular Kings Park, where some of the best views of Perth are waiting for us. Then we'll leave downtown behind and follow the Swan River through leafy neighbourhoods, passing the famous Blue Boat House and the University of Western Australia before making our way toward the coast. And that's when the scenery changes again. We'll reach the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean at Cottesloe Beach, follow the coast south, and eventually arrive in Fremantle, or Freo as the locals call it. There we'll discover convict history, grand Victorian architecture, Fremantle Prison, the historic Town Hall and the old waterfront before heading right out into the harbour for our grand finale at the South Mole Lighthouse. Today, we're going to explore Brisbane from behind the wheel, discovering a city built around the twists and turns of the Brisbane River. We'll begin beside one of Australia's most famous sporting grounds, The Gabba, before heading to the riverfront at Kangaroo Point and crossing the iconic Story Bridge. From there, we'll explore the lively streets of Fortitude Valley, the leafy neighbourhood of New Farm, and the historic woolstores of Teneriffe. We'll then make our way into the heart of downtown Brisbane, passing historic churches, grand government buildings, City Hall and the City Botanic Gardens before crossing the river into South Bank, home to Brisbane's cultural precinct and some of the city's most popular attractions. But we're not stopping there. We'll head west past Suncorp Stadium, climb through the hills of Paddington, discover Brisbane's classic Queenslander houses, and gradually leave the city behind as we make our way toward Mount Coot-tha. And we've saved the best view for last. Our grand finale will take us all the way to the Mount Coot-tha Summit Lookout, where Brisbane, the river and the surrounding landscape will be spread out below us. Today, we’re going to discover one of Australia’s most exciting and diverse cities, from its grand historic buildings and hidden laneways to world-famous sporting venues, beautiful gardens, waterfront neighbourhoods and some fantastic views of the Melbourne skyline. We’ll begin right here in the heart of the city, passing landmarks like Queen Victoria Market, the Old Melbourne Gaol, Parliament House and the magnificent Royal Exhibition Building. We’ll explore Melbourne’s famous sporting and cultural precincts, cross the Yarra River, pass the Shrine of Remembrance and Royal Botanic Gardens, and then make our way towards Albert Park Lake. From there, the character of the tour changes completely as we head for the coast. We’ll cruise through lively St Kilda, pass its beach, historic theatre and famous Luna Park, and then follow Port Phillip south through Elwood before finishing at colourful Brighton Beach and its iconic bathing boxes. Along the way, I’ll share some of the stories, history and fun facts that make Melbourne such a fascinating city, while pointing out plenty of places you may want to come back and explore on foot later. Welcome to Granbury, Texas! And first things first: it's Gran-bury, not Cranberry. There are no cranberries involved in the name. Granbury was named after General Hiram B. Granbury, a Confederate officer who was killed during the Civil War in 1864. He never actually lived here, but when the town was established a couple of years after his death, it was named in his honor. Later in our tour, we'll pass the cemetery where he is buried and tell you more about his story. But Granbury has plenty of other stories to tell. On this tour, we'll begin in the heart of its beautifully preserved historic downtown, where nineteenth-century buildings surround the Hood County Courthouse. We'll pass an old jail, a pioneer cabin, and a railroad depot before heading into the Texas countryside. From there, the drive becomes considerably more scenic. We'll follow part of the Comanche Peak Loop, travel along quiet country roads, see the distinctive Comanche Peak, and make our way toward Lake Granbury and the Brazos River. We'll even point out a great observation point where you can stop, stretch your legs, and take some photos. We'll also visit Acton, where the widow of legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett is buried, before making our way back toward Granbury and finishing right on the water at Granbury City Beach Park. Along the way, you'll hear stories about pioneers, soldiers, outlaws, and even a man who claimed he was Jesse James long after Jesse James was supposedly dead. Welcome to our Memphis-to-Nashville road trip! Now, there are probably a billion ways to get from Memphis to Nashville. Okay, maybe not literally a billion — but there are certainly enough that choosing just one wasn't easy. The simplest option is obvious: get on Interstate 40, point the car east, and stay there until Nashville. It's fast, efficient... and that's exactly what we're not going to do. Because this road trip isn't about getting to Nashville as quickly as possible. It's about making the most of the journey between two of America's great music cities. So when we designed this route, we had a few rules. We wanted to keep the trip reasonably efficient, while getting you off the interstate whenever the alternative was worth it. We looked for roads that would take us through small Tennessee towns, beautiful countryside, forests and historic communities rather than simply around them. We wanted stories too — music, barbecue, Civil War history, old railroads, forgotten highways, unusual characters, and the people and places that shaped Tennessee. And every once in a while, when the interstate really is the best option, we'll use it. We're adventurous, not unreasonable. Along the way we'll travel portions of old highways that carried people across Tennessee long before I-40 existed, wind through the countryside of West Tennessee, cross the Tennessee River, discover communities like Lexington, Waverly, McEwen and Dickson, and gradually watch rural Tennessee give way to Nashville. Some places will be worth stopping. Others we'll simply enjoy from the road. And occasionally we'll take you somewhere you probably never would have discovered if you'd just asked your navigation app for the fastest route. That's really the idea behind this tour. Memphis and Nashville are the bookends. But today, the space between them is the story. So get comfortable, enjoy the drive, and don't worry — we'll handle the storytelling. Let's take the long way to Nashville.

Bienvenue à Galena, dans l'Illinois, une ville où l'on a vraiment l'impression de remonter le temps. Avec ses façades en briques, ses élégantes demeures, ses clochers et ses rues sinueuses, Galena est aujourd'hui l'une des villes historiques les mieux préservées des États-Unis. Je suis ravie que vous m'accompagniez pour cette balade. Nous allons découvrir la maison d'Ulysses S. Grant, parcourir la célèbre Main Street, traverser la rivière Galena et admirer des églises, des hôtels et des bâtiments historiques qui racontent l'incroyable histoire de cette petite ville. Mais d'abord, pourquoi s'appelle-t-elle Galena ? Le nom vient de la galène, le principal minerai de plomb. Au début du XIXe siècle, d'importants gisements furent découverts dans les collines environnantes, déclenchant une véritable ruée minière. Prospecteurs, entrepreneurs et colons affluèrent dans la région, et Galena devint rapidement l'une des communautés les plus prospères de l'Illinois. La rivière joua elle aussi un rôle essentiel. Des bateaux à vapeur transportaient le minerai, les marchandises et les passagers entre Galena et le Mississippi. Dans les années 1840, la ville était si prospère qu'elle rivalisa même, pendant un temps, avec la jeune Chicago. Puis son économie déclina. Mais ce déclin eut un avantage inattendu : au lieu d'être remplacés par des constructions modernes, de nombreux bâtiments du XIXe siècle furent préservés.
