The Durham Region is also one of the fastest-growing areas in Canada; its current population of 700,000 is expected to pass 1 million by 2041. Another reason the Durham Region attracts so many people is because of its proximity to Lake Ontario. Oshawa translates to “where we must leave our canoes”.
