Littleton Museum
We begin on South Gallup Street and our first point of interest on this tour- The Littleton Museum, an experience that offers visitors a unique link between the town's past and present. The museum encompasses three exhibition galleries, a children's interactive gallery, research center, lecture hall, and two 19th-century living history farm sites. Museum staff and volunteers are dressed in period-appropriate costumes, work on the farm sites and run the working blacksmith shop. Unique to each farm are the breeds of livestock and the types and varieties of plants found in the gardens and fields. Some livestock friends you may encounter include Julie the Mule, Ernest the Donkey, Fitzgerald & Ford the Oxen, Jed & Ferdinand the Rams, Bud the Bull, and Daniel and Horace the Boars.

From a child's delight at seeing the animals on the farm sites, to scholarly exploration in the research center, to attending one of the many events on the museum grounds, there is something for everyone to experience and enjoy at the Littleton Museum.

An organization known as ‘Friends of the Littleton Library and Museum’ funds adult programs and summer reading programs for all ages. They also hold an annual craft fair and used book sale, publish a newsletter called The Oracle, and sponsor a parade float and offer member trips and tours.

Lamars Donuts
Since we're still very early in our tour of the southwest suburbs of Denver, now is a perfect time for some fresh coffee and donuts- And Lamar’s just happens to be on our way! The Rocky Mountain Chronicle described Lamar’s as “the ultimate indulgence, purely heaven, tender and airy, sinfully good, fit for kings.” These incredible, amazing donuts are the result of years of perfecting an art.

Take the Bizmark- It’s not just a city in North Dakota, but a premium and decadent donut offered at Lamar’s that includes more dough, filling, and topping due to its rectangular shape. In the southern United States this may be called a Long John, and could be unfilled and tossed in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar, but at Lamar's it comes fully loaded with all the good stuff. Did you know... the largest donut ever made was an American-style jelly donut weighing 1.7 tons, which was 16 feet in diameter and 16 inches high in the center.

Pirates Cove Water Park
Continuing down West Belleview we approach what can only amount to pure fun in the sun. It can get plenty hot here in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and Pirates Cove Water Park has plenty of cooling and fun filled activities for the whole family. While Mom plays with the little ones on the slides and in the leisure pool, Dad can unwind in the lazy river, floating on a comfy tube. Other entertainment areas include the ‘dump bucket,’ ‘spray garden’ and ‘sandy beach play area.’ More than just a big pool, Pirates Cove will have you saying, “arrr matey’s,” with friends and family as you splish-splash in any of their fun amenities. Did you know that in Pirate speak, “arrr” has many meanings and interpretations including “i’m happy!” and “matey” means (amongst other things), “friends.”

Cabanas are available for rent for those wanting a more private place to dry off and relax. There are even ‘Adult Nights’ for times when Mom and Dad or anyone who needs a short break from ‘adulting’ can indulge in the Pirates Booty. Har Har Har…

Since you will likely be at the park for a while each visit, the Barnacle Cafe has your hunger taken care of. All the favorite beach and pool favorites like hamburgers and hot dogs, pizza, and cotton candy, and of course ice cream!

Surrounding Pirates Cove are a variety of parks, athletic fields, skating areas, and even a petting zoo. A mini train takes you through the zoo where you can see and feed sheep, goats, piglets and chickens.

As we head east towards our next destination, we will be passing through Greenwood Village. It is known for being the home of the Denver Tech Center and some of Colorado's most luxurious neighborhoods. The Tech Center is a hub for local, national and international businesses, especially in the technology space, making it a popular location for conferences and conventions.

You may notice ‘John Elway Chevrolet’ on your right. Indeed, owned by the Denver Broncos most famous player who led the franchise to back-to-back Super Bowl victories in the late 90’s.

We will also be going around the High Line Canal, one of the longest continuous urban trails in the country. At 71 miles long, the canal twists through the most populated area of Colorado while crossing multiple and varied communities. The High Line Canal Conservancy offers guided walks for those who want to learn more about this natural wonder.

West Metro Pediatric Dentistry
We will be taking a right onto South Quebec Street as we make our way to our next destination on this tour, West Metro Pediatric Dentistry. What exactly is a Pediatric Dentist? Because children’s mouths change so quickly, pediatric dentists are specifically taught to know what is best at each stage of the child’s dental growth process. A pediatrician treats and monitors your child's development as they grow and the common changes that occur with their height and weight. Because of their focus strictly on young and growing mouths and teeth, a pediatric dentist can more effectively care for the dental needs of young people.

The idea here is to not make going to the dentist an intimidating or scary experience. The mission of their practice is to provide the children and adolescents of Colorado with oral health education, prevention, and treatment in a safe, comfortable, and caring environment. West Metro uses many child-friendly teaching techniques including “tell-show-do,” the use of toys and props, and positive reinforcement. They also foster a community-centered practice through educational programs, service and volunteer opportunities, and access to care for the underserved.

We will be turning left on East Orchard Road and then entering onto interstate 23 south for about a mile. Exit at East Arapahoe Road and take a right onto South Clinton Street.

View House
Approaching on your right is View House... an eatery, bar and rooftop hotspot. Inspired by Coloradans’ fondness of sports and crafted around living a healthy lifestyle revolved around food, activities, and all things local. The first View House opened outside Coors Field in Denver and its popularity led to 3 new locations in the Denver/Colorado Springs area. It’s not all about the ‘view’ because this place has incredible food and drink, but the ‘view’ is a big deal here in the foothills and whether you're on the rooftop or inside, you’ll get just that.

If you're in the mood for something spicy, try the jalapeno explosion burger. Cheddar, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, and harissa aioli on a brioche bun. Boom! That’s quite a bang for your taste buds. Pair that with any number of specialty craft cocktails and beers on tap to complete your experience.

A left onto Easter Ave, followed by a right onto South Hayes will get us to our next destination on the tour, Top Golf.

Top Golf
Don’t let the name fool you- Top Golf was not created for just the experienced competitive players. There’s no pressure to have a good golf swing or score a lot of points. It’s all about everyone having fun and that’s what the designers envisioned. If you're looking for more chatter and libations after View House, at Top Golf they’ve made socializing a sport through a blend of technology and entertainment. No need to yell “Fore.” Make use of their complimentary clubs or your own, take aim at the giant outfield targets and high-tech golf balls will score themselves. This is a whole lot more than driving golf balls aimlessly or aiming for the poor ball cart collector. There are also leagues at Top Golf which grants the opportunity to improve your golf skills and most of all, it’s perfect for hanging out with friends and meeting new ones.

The weather can get pretty rough here in Colorado and Top Golf boasts climate controlled and enclosed hitting bays. Similar to what you would see at a high-end bowling alley (well, without the climate control of course). This entertainment hotspot is great for parties, company outings or friendly get-togethers. Food and drinks are a big deal at Top Golf and there is an extensive drinks menu in addition to bar food favorites that will keep you fueled and happy. No need to say to yourself. “I need to work on my game.” Don’t think of it as work, just get to Top Golf and enjoy yourself!

Greenwood Pediatrics
A left on South Chester followed by a right on East Mineral will take us past Greenwood Pediatrics as we make our way through Centennial.

Greenwood Pediatrics separates itself from some other children's medical facilities by making themselves available 24 hours a day. They have dedicated triage nurses available to speak with during office hours, one of their physicians is always on call, and you can reach them anytime day or night.

Take a right on South Yosemite and then left on East Dry Creek Road. We will then be making a left on South Holly Street as we find our next destination on the tour- Endodontic Associates of Centennial and Littleton.

After a boo boo and a visit to Greenwood Pediatrics, your little one will want to escape from their tough day and the Dr. Seuss Experience across the street in the Centennial Promenade is a great place to take them. There they can magically step into pages of one of the books with recreations of the stories in a safe indoor environment.

If they would prefer some food for comfort, East County Line has plenty of good eats with In N’ Out Burger, Panda Express and Chic Fil A, to name a few.

Endodontic Associates
So, what exactly do Endodontists do? Well, “Endo” is the Greek word for “inside” and “odont” is Greek for “tooth.” So they are essentially a dentist, right? Well yes, but Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerning dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth. So they are dentists who specialize in saving teeth. By focusing their practice on these specific procedures such as root canal treatment, surgery and trauma, endodontists are experts at managing a wide array of complex endodontic problems efficiently.

What makes the Endodontic Associates of Littleton and Centennial special? Patients in need of urgent or immediate care can rest assured they will be seen and treated here promptly. Nothing looks, feels or functions like your natural tooth so these ‘teeth savers’ are a kind of hero without a cape... Just some high tech, fancy dental equipment and unshakeable hands.

Los Dos Potrillos
With four locations in and around the southwest Denver area, Los Dos Potrillos has carved out a reputation for itself as a can't-miss stop for Mexican food. Owner Jose Ramirez and his family provide customers in the South Metro area with "Real Mexican Food" while maintaining a family-friendly, "hole-in-the-wall" experience thanks to years of hard work. In addition to catering and private events, Los Dos Potrillos makes it to other areas where their restaurants are not located with the Los Dos Food truck.

What is considered authentic Mexican food you ask? Authentic Mexican cuisine is characterized by fresh ingredients that are local to Mexico, including tomatoes, chile, spices like coriander and epazote, and lots of corn. For many US residents, Mexican food means burritos, quesadillas, and hard-shell tacos. As tasty as these dishes may be, they don’t tell the full story of Mexican cuisine. The use of white cheese, soft corn tortillas, street corn, and chorizo, a savory Mexican sausage, are mainstays at Los Dos.

By contrast, Tex-Mex prominently features shredded cheese, which is not as ubiquitous in traditional Mexican cuisine. This type of cuisine also has a global component, including a prominent use of cumin, thanks to the influence of Spanish immigrants in Texas. You may be surprised to know that nachos, crispy tacos, and chili con carne are all actually Tex-Mex dishes!

Arapaho Park and Kids Wonder
Take a left on South University Blvd as we pass our next 2 destinations on the tour- Arapaho Park and Kids Wonder.

Arapaho park, strangely spelled without the “E” on the end, is most widely known for the long winding blue slides on the playground that are super popular amongst its riders. Another fun spot the youngsters will enjoy is the spinning pyramid net climbing structure. There are lots of trees covering the playground equipment, and an additional kids play area with even more shade for comfort during those hot summer days. The park also has soccer fields, a basketball Court, and Tennis Courts. A trail of 0.64 miles loops around the park and is a popular walk for pups.

2 blocks north of Arapaho Park is Kids Wonder, a children's play center focusing on the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of children from zero to 8. The ‘Lil Town’ within the center is popular with kids as soon as they learn to walk. Featuring a home, school, grocery store, cafe, fire station, pet/vet, and a theater where youngsters enrich themselves in a fun and exciting environment. For families with toddlers, Kids Wonder is a safe and developmentally appropriate area with soft play, which includes small climbers with slides, small play houses, and a tiny bounce house. Several bigger inflatables cater to kids from 3 to 8 years old.

There is also an area in the center known as ‘Whole Body Play’ which allows for full movement of a child’s body and imagination. Large inflatables encourage physical development, stress reduction, balance and coordination.
Mom and Dad don’t feel left out- Parents are not only permitted but encouraged to play with their youngsters at Kids Wonder. A snack bar with healthy options is available as well as a breakfast/lunch menu for a more substantial meal.

Play Street Museum Highlands Ranch
The next stop on our tour is another themed indoor play area for children, Play Street Museum of Highland Ranch. After a left on Venneford Ranch Road and right on South Colorado Blvd, our location is on the left.

At Play Street Museum, instead of the indoor play area being styled in a general fashion, the area is constructed uniquely for themed events, seasonal occasions and birthday parties. For example, a Denver Broncos themed party with everything you might see at the stadium, but kid sized within a designated area of the museum. Other themed events that have taken place here include a fire house, donut shop, fishing trip, rocket ship, and a “Tea Rex” party. In other words, a tea party hosted by Tyrannosaurus Rex’s.

Scientific data and research over the years has shaped the philosophy behind Play Street Museums approach to fun for children. They have found that the need for ‘pretend and imaginative play’ in child development are vital components to the normal development of a child. Providing time for children to have self-directed play stimulates their imaginations, encourages them to problem solve, and allows them to refine their social skills.

Arts and crafts, playing dress up, as well as singing and dancing are commonplace at Play Street Museum. The idea here is that children must enjoy the activity otherwise it is not considered ‘play.’ And it’s all about playing and having fun here!

Cherry Hills Community Church and EastRidge Pool
Moving along on our tour of the southwest suburbs, after a right on Fairview parkway we will be passing by the Cherry Hills Community Church and the Eastridge Recreation Center.

The Eastridge Rec Center underwent major renovation in 2013 and improved upon and added new equipment to the cardio and weight areas to facilitate increased usership. The recreation facility boasts two indoor and two outdoor swimming pools, a large climbing wall, and two outdoor sand volleyball courts. Fitness and dance studios with personal trainers are also available.

Across the street and on the other side of Valor HS is the Cherry Hills Community Church. They are members of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) and follow the Essentials of the Faith laid out by the EPC. In addition to weekend services for all, the church hosts guest speakers and concerts throughout the year.

Offering programs for Kids, Mid, and High point age groups, students will have the ability to engage in energetic worship that is both fun and powerful. Each area for Kidspoint is designed to engage kids’ hearts at their age or developmental level to make friends, laugh, learn and play. Midpoint is a place for students grades 5-8. At Highpoint, students indulge in an environment where they can be transparent, experience authentic friendships with their peers, and where leaders are there to walk alongside their best (and worst) parts of their teenage years.

We will now be heading west but will detail our next point of interest in Parker, Colorado, a few miles east of our current location. Turn right on Mcarthur Ranch Road from East Wildcat Reserve, and on the way, we will talk about the fun stuff going on at Monkey Bizness.

Spelled with a “BIZ,” at Monkey Bizness kids under 8 years old can go monkey around in a jungle of fun with inflatable jumps, slides, and obstacle courses. There is also a special area set aside for toddlers- designed for kids 2 years and younger. This is another indoor play area for children with its own unique identity and appeal for youngsters. In an era where technology captivates most children, an ideal setting is provided that allows them to exercise by having fun.

Open play sessions take place at designated times throughout the week and are free for adults to join their little ones. You can also leave and come back on the same day at no additional cost.
Birthday parties are popular at Monkey Bizness and feature a party host aid during your time in the party room and act as your guide throughout the celebration. Daycare centers, camps, mom and parent groups, home schools and religious organizations have all enjoyed having parties hosted at Monkey Bizness.

Highlands Ranch Mansion
Take a right onto East Gateway and we will be approaching our next destination on the tour, the Highland Ranch Mansion, whose stunning landscaped grounds will be on your right.

The Mansion has been home to some of Denver’s more notable families including cattle barons, oil tycoons, prominent Denver socialites, as well as political and business leaders who have helped create the Colorado known today. Once part of a vast ranching empire in Colorado, the Mansion is located within 250-acres and is surrounded by a working ranch, historic barns, pastures and an iconic windmill. When thinking about windmills, our mind may take us to Holland or Denmark. Did you know that the first known windmills were built between the 7th and 9th centuries in Persia? The most common use has been to draw up water from the ground and to grind grain.

Private events at the mansion are very popular due to the fact that parties gain access to the entire property for their function. The back veranda, solarium, library, card room and the Great Hall, featuring high ceilings, exposed wood beams, and accents of stone and brick walls are part of the experience.

The Mansion offers free historic tours during daytime hours between Tuesday and Thursdays throughout the year. Names such as Vanderbilt, Carnegie, and Rockefeller are prominent historical names of the 19th and 20th centuries in the Eastern United States. The Highlands Ranch Mansion has served as a residence for some of Colorado’s most notable families with last names like Springer, Hughes, Phillips, Kistler and Phipps and are names synonymous with ambition and prestige in the west.

After making a right on South Broadway we will be approaching The Highlands Ranch Library.

With kid-friendly shopping baskets, bright produce, weight scales, checkout stands, and a galley kitchen stocked with aprons, kids will have a blast playing shopper, grocery checker, and chef all in the same day!
