Village of Oak Creek
As we make our way into the heart of Sedona, we are starting in a small town just outside of it, The Village of Oak Creek, also just known as “The Village.” Like many other areas in Arizona, The Village boasts stunning views of towering red rock formations, and is renowned for its natural beauty. And, despite its small size, the Village of Oak Creek offers a variety of shopping and dining, you can find local art galleries, boutique shops, and a diverse range of cuisine at the many restaurants and cafes that line the downtown.
We will be driving along the iconic Red Rock Scenic Byway, State Route 179, to reach our next place on the tour, as well as many others. This 7.5 mile stretch offers some of the most iconic views of Sedona’s red rock formations, and there are several pull outs along the way where you can stop and take photos. Don’t be shy! If you’d like to pull off to snap a couple pictures for your family’s holiday card please go ahead to do so. I’m happy to wait, I’m just sorry I can’t help take the photograph!

Bell Rock
Looking to our right is the iconic Bell Rock. A towering sandstone formation that rises prominently from the desert floor. Its distinctive bell-like shape, with a relatively flat top and smooth sides, is what gives it its name. Like many other formations in Sedona, Bell Rock is made of sandstone deposited over millions of years. These rocks were sculpted by the forces of erosion, resulting in the stunning red rock landscape of the region.
There are many hikes around Bell Rock, as well as the one that leads you directly to the formation itself. If you get a chance to walk around, the Bell Rock Pathway is a relatively easy trail and encircles the base of Bell Rock. When you are standing, or even just in the presence of Bell Rock it’s difficult to not feel its energy.
Bell Rock is believed to be one of the vortex sites in Sedona, places where the earth’s energy is thought to be particularly strong and conducive to healing, meditation, and spiritual experiences. Bell Rock is associated with masculine energy, often giving individuals the feelings of empowerment, self-confidence, and assertiveness. Some people claim that spending time at the Bell Rock vortex enhances their energy and motivation, making them feel more ready to take on the challenges they may face in life. If you are looking for strength to keep moving forward in certain factions of your life, whether it be personal, professional, or spiritual, Bell Rock is the place you should spend some time.
The Bell Rock vortex is sometimes used as a sacred space for ceremonies, rituals, and spiritual practices. Visitors may engage in activities such as prayer, chanting, or energy work to connect with the vortex’s energy and deepen their spiritual connection. The energy of the Bell Rock vortex is said to help align and balance the body’s energy centers, known as chakras, leading to a sense of harmony and well-being. Whether you visit for mediation, motivation, or just the overall sense of nature, Bell Rock offers a profound and transformative experience for those who seek it.
