Iconic Falls Park
On your right is Falls Park, the sparkling heart of Sioux Falls and the city’s most famous natural wonder. If you haven’t explored it yet, now’s the perfect opportunity — this is the spot where the Big Sioux River dramatically tumbles over pink quartzite ledges, creating a breathtaking series of cascades that have shaped both the landscape and the city’s history. You can always pause here, enjoy the view, and restart the tour afterward.

The falls drop about a hundred feet in total and span over 120 acres of parkland, with walking paths, bridges, and viewing platforms that give you incredible photo opportunities from every angle. The pink quartzite you see is over a billion years old, one of the hardest and most beautiful stones found anywhere in the world — it even glows red at sunrise and sunset.

For thousands of years, the falls were a gathering place for Native American tribes who recognized the land’s natural power and beauty. Later, in the late 1800s, settlers harnessed the rushing water to power the Queen Bee Mill, whose ruins on your right still stand today as a reminder of Sioux Falls’ early industry and ambition.

If you’ve already been, then you know just how special it is. And if not, take the time now — this is the perfect introduction to the city that proudly carries the name of its falls. Once you’ve soaked it all in, come back and let’s continue our adventure through Sioux Falls!

Majestic Arc of Dreams
Up ahead is the Arc of Dreams, get into the circle on the right and turn left. The Arc of Dreams is a truly iconic piece of public art that has quickly become a beacon for Sioux Falls. This isn't just a giant shiny thing over the river; it's a profound statement about ambition and courage, conceived by South Dakota native artist Dale Claude Lamphere.

Unveiled in 2019, this spectacular sculpture spans an impressive 300 feet across the Big Sioux River, reaches 70 feet into the sky, and weighs a staggering 100 tons. Talk about a heavyweight! It’s crafted entirely from stainless steel, which not only gives it that brilliant shimmer, especially under the sun or lit up at night, but also ensures its longevity for generations to come. The design itself represents the 'leap of faith' required to pursue a dream. Notice that 15-foot gap at the top? That’s not a mistake; it's the critical moment, the point of no return when a dreamer commits fully to their vision. It's that moment between the idea and its realization.

The Arc beautifully connects the east and west banks of the river, much like it connects our aspirations to our achievements. It's a reminder that every great endeavor starts with a daring jump into the unknown. We like to joke that it's our city's biggest (and shiniest) encouragement award. Seriously though, take a moment to admire its scale and meaning. It's a testament to the big thinking that defines Sioux Falls, and a fantastic photo opportunity to boot – just don't try to leap that gap yourself, unless you've brought a jetpack!
