Der North Palm Canyon Drive
Wir starten jetzt unsere Fahrt auf dem North Palm Canyon Drive, der absoluten Hauptader und dem historischen Rückgrat der Stadt.

Diese Straße folgt einem uralten Pfad der Agua Caliente Cahuilla-Indianer – lange bevor Palm Springs zum Wüsten-Hotspot wurde. Was als natürlicher Korridor durch den Canyon begann, entwickelte sich schließlich zur legendären Hauptstraße der Stadt.

In den 40er und 50er Jahren wurde dieser Abschnitt zum gesellschaftlichen Herzstück von Palm Springs. Filmstars, Musiker und Designer cruisten hier zwischen Hotels, Clubs und Privatvillen und verwandelten die Wüstenstadt in einen glamourösen Hollywood-Hotspot.

Gleich biegen wir rechts ab, um am Palm Springs Art Museum vorbeizufahren. Danach geht's zurück auf den Palm Canyon Drive und weiter Richtung Walk of Stars.

Seward Johnsons „Forever Marilyn“-Statue
Gleich links abbiegen, aber schaut vorher mal nach links: Da steht „Forever Marilyn“! Diese legendäre, fast acht Meter hohe Skulptur von Seward Johnson zeigt Marilyn Monroes unvergesslichen Moment aus „Das verflixte 7. Jahr“.

Die Statue ist übrigens fast so viel herumgekommen wie Marilyn selbst! 2011 in Chicago enthüllt, ging es für sie nach New Jersey und schließlich nach Palm Springs. Nach hitzigen Diskussionen vor Ort und einem kurzen Umzug steht sie seit 2021 wieder hier im Zentrum. Ein schöner Beweis, dass Marilyn – genau wie Palm Springs – einfach ins Rampenlicht gehört.

Marilyn hat Palm Springs geliebt, um mal ohne Hollywood-Trubel abzuschalten. Gleich fahren wir an einem der Häuser vorbei, in denen sie damals gewohnt hat – ein kleiner Einblick in ihre ganz persönliche Wüsten-Oase.

Taking a UCPlaces tour is fun and easy.

UCPlaces acts as your personal tour guide, providing self-guided audio tours fully navigated within our app using GPS-based navigation. You won't need to switch between external navigation apps.
Whenever you approach a point of interest (POI) on the tour, our app will automatically play the relevant audio story at the right time and place.
If you start the tour before reaching the first POI, the app will navigate you to the starting point and then begin the tour.

The app is your tour-guide, it needs to know where you are located on the map to be able to trigger the points of interest. It also needs access to audio and media files to provide you with this experience.

We have been working hard to deliver a great experience. Though you may run into unexpected obstacles (the world is constantly changing), our app has multiple features and mechanisms in place to help you overcome them, including: AI assistance, force play an audio if you can't reach the stop, skip or return to stops, automatic rerouting and more.
